Starting out in Sydney in 2008, ALL MANKIND’s first shows were mostly on street corners, playing some of their own songs and a few covers for passing pedestrians. After graduating from street level, the band started putting on shows to a handful of friends and family at classic venues like the Annandale Hotel. With a little momentum and a lot of luck, they eventually made their way to bigger festivals like One Movement in Perth. Within a year, the band were being contacted by industry in the US & UK, and not long after were playing stages from London to LA.
On one of their trips back to Sydney, the band recorded three tracks at East Street Studios in Five Dock. One of these songs was heard by a TV producer in Los Angeles, who chose the track Open Your Eyes as the ad-theme for Emmy-winner Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. The song’s first airing was during the screening of the Academy Awards in the US – the second biggest night in US TV behind the Super Bowl.
Not long after, more ALL MANKIND tracks started to appear in TV shows in Australia, Germany, the UK and US, in shows like The Hills, Jersey Shore, Berlin Tag and Nacht, Winners and Losers, The In-Betweeners, and Savage U.
The band’s audience grew even more when their track Break the Spell made it’s way on to FIFA 12 by EA games. The game sold 3.2 million copies in its first week of availability, making it the fastest selling sports game ever at the time.
The band’s debut full-length album SIMPLE DESIRE was released during 2012. The album was recorded and produced by Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, Foals) in Liverpool, England. The band chose to record the album using traditional techniques, recording to tape, using vintage analogue gear, recording live as a band, and relying on performance rather than technology.
