Yuri Zhislin & Natalia Lomeiko

The Lomeiko - Zhislin Duo is an artistic union created as a result of their strong desire to be together on stage, as well as in life. Wonderful musicians in their own right; among numerous awards Natalia is a Gold medal prize - winner of the "Premio Paganini" international violin competition and Yuri is the BBC Radio Two Young Musician. Both are also professors at the Royal College of Music.

The Lomeiko-Zhislin Duo is rapidly becoming an invaluable asset at Chamber Music Festivals around the globe being praised for their superb ensemble and musicianship qualities.

Together they have performed with the Moscow State Chamber orchestra, the Belgrade Philharmonic, the Pacific Symphony, the Queensland Symphony, the Christchurch Symphony, the Kurashiki String Academy, the London Soloists, the Emerald Enemble, the English Soloists Ensemble, the New European Strings, the Yerevan Philharmonic orchestras and with the Russian Virtuosi of Europe - a chamber orchestra of which they are founder members.

Their Duo recital programmes have been enthusiastically received at the Wigmore Hall, the Ako Festival in Japan, Burton and Bradstock Festival and Lincolnshire Festivals in England, and concert venues across Europe. Natalia and Yuri's joint CD for Naxos was released in 2011 and features complete violin and viola works by A. Bruni and J. Halvorsen.

The Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante is often played these days, and the listeners are offered a wide variety of different interpretations. Lomeiko and Zhislin, however, gave us one of the best versions I have ever heard. They played this beautiful music effortlessly and naturally, not making anything up, following the great composer's ideas: light, happiness, nobility and wisdom..

Their ensemble is phenomenal. It feels like both of them can predict exactly what the other one is about to do. Lomeiko and Zhislin are like twins: they sense the mood, the phrase and the colours of the work in exactly the same way. The viola does not keep any secrets from the violin. It gently decorates musical ideas that the violin creates with its own unique patterns. Sometimes, the same melody is simply shared by the two instruments. The tempos, passages, technical elements - everything was performed effortlessly. But the most significant thing was the sound: tender, transparent and dreamy from the violin, and dark and rich, as honey, from the viola."

Described by The Strad as a "virtuoso with a truly Romantic temperament", Yuri Zhislin is one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. Equally at home on both violin and viola, Zhislin enjoys an active and illustrious career as soloist and chamber musician. His performances have taken him to nearly 60 countries around the globe. A major prize-winner in the 1991 Sarasate International Violin Competition in Spain, Yuri entered the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied with his father and later Dr Andrievsky. In 1993, Yuri became the BBC Radio 2 Young Musician of the Year. The orchestras that Yuri performed with as a soloist include the Oxford Philharmonic, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, the Lithuanian Chamber and State Symphony Orchestras, the Queensland Symphony, the Yerevan Philharmonic, the Belgrade Philharmonic, the Russian State Chamber Orchestra, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic, the Pacific Symphony, the Madeira Classical Orchestra, the Santiago de Chile Symphony and the Altay Philharmonic, to name a few. Zhislin made his recital debut at the New York Carnegie Weill Hall in 2014 and appeared at the Wigmore Hall and Kings Place in London, Salle Gaveau in Paris, Stadtcasino in Basel, Moscow Conservatoire Chamber Hall, International House of Music in Moscow, Arnold Kats Music Hall in Novosibirsk, Kolarac Hall in Belgrade, the Great Guild Hall in Riga, the QPAC Hall in Brisbane, Coliseum theatre in Buenos Aires and Solis theatre in Montevideo among many others. Yuri's discography includes a recital CD released in 2005 on the SOMM label, a violin/viola Duos CD for the Naxos label in 2009, and a string trio CD for the Nymbus Alliance label with Dmitry Sitkovetsky on violin and Luigi Piovano on cello. A keen chamber musician, Yuri is regularly invited to participate in international music festivals throughout the world. He has worked with such artists as Maria-Joao Pires, Maxim Vengerov, Barry Douglas, Natalie Clein, Sergei Nakariakov, Liana Isakadze and Ivan Monighetti among many others. Zhislin was an Artistic Director of the Apollon International Arts Festival in Cyprus in 2014 and 15. In 2004, Yuri formed Camerata Tchaikovsky (formerly the Russian Virtuosi of Europe), an ensemble comprising musicians with an enviable list of international awards and prizes. The ensemble recently completed successful tours to both South America and Russia. Released in February 2016, their debut CD on Orchid Classics received great reviews and was chosen “CD of the month” in April 2016 by the BBC Music Magazine. Yuri is a professor of violin and viola at the Royal College of Music in London and is in high demand as a visiting professor at the Mozart Italia Terni Summer Academy, the Allegro-Vivo Academy in Austria and the Gijon Summer Academy in Spain. He also gives master classes in Russia, Bulgaria, Sweden, Madeira, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Hailed by Lord Menuhin as “one of the most brilliant of our younger violinists”, Natalia Lomeiko has already established herself as a versatile internationally renowned violinist and as a Professor at the Royal College of Music. Having won numerous awards and prizes in Tchaikovsky, Menuhin, Stradivari, Tibor Varga International Violin Competitions, in the year 2000 she became Gold medalist and 1st Prize winner of “Premio Paganini” and won first prize in the Michael Hill International Violin Competition. Natalia is a very keen chamber musician, establishing a Duo with her husband Yuri Zhislin, she regularly plays with Daishin Kashimoto, Amihai Grosz, Claudio Bohorquez, Katia Skanavi, Natalie Clein and Alexander Sitkovetsky.

In the next concert season Natalia will collaborate with Maxim Vengerov in Mendelssohn’s Octet and Mozart’s Concertone, will tour as soloist with the Moscow State Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Simonov and participate in numerous chamber music Festivals in Italy, Austria, Germany, Japan and New Zealand.
