Da Cruz mischt brasilianischen Bossa mit Breakbeats, Drum´n´Bass und elektronischen Spielarten und erzählt vom modernen, urbanen Brasilien. Von einem Land, das gerade zwischen Revolution und Resignation taumelt. Das klingt mal zornig, mal fatalistisch, und ist meistens ziemlich gut tanzbar. Herz der sechsköpfigen Band sind der Schweizer Beatbastler Ane H. und die brasilianische Sängerin und Namensgeberin der Band, Mariana Da Cruz. Beide haben ihr eigenes stilistisches Profil, bevor sie der Zufall in einem Irish Pub in Lissabon zusammenbringt. Die Chemie stimmte sofort, Files wurden hin- und her geschickt, Flüge für gemeinsamen Sessions gebucht. Als die Zusammenarbeit intensiver und die Flugkosten immer höher wurden, verlegt Mariana ihren Wohnsitz nach Bern. Die Band wächst, zieht sich für mehrere Monate auf eine Schweizer Alp zurück und entwickelt ihren neuen Sound: leichtfüßiger Bossa-Gesang, Dancehall- und Samba-Rhythmen, kochende Bläsersätze, kantige Gitarren, Afrobeat, Acid-Lines und elektronische Sub-Bässe gehören jetzt dazu. Da Cruz beweisen, dass sich Gegensätze nicht nur anziehen, sondern wie aus vielen verschiedenen Zutaten ein neuer, ungehörter Sound entsteht.

The Berne based group Da Cruz take you to a different place: modern and urban Brazil, a country staggering between revolution and resignation. Da Cruz have translated all the anger and joy, all the hope and despair into extremely danceable songs. On their new album „Eco do Futuro“ singer Mariana Da Cruz has discovering her African roots. Born and raised in Sao Paulo she moved to Switzerland ten years ago, but never actually settled, at least not when it comes to music. On this new record Da Cruz directs an electro-acoustic trip from the subversive communities of Lagos to the favelas of Rio and the townships of Johannesburg, with occasional stopps in the smoke-filled recording studios of Kingston Town and poorly ventilated clubs of London. Blending Kwaito, Baile Funk, Afrobeat, Dub and Hip Hop, „Eco do Futuro“ is a decisively urban „black“ record. Over the past ten years Da Cruz has gained an excellent reputation in the global music scene. Each of its four records has made the Top 10 of the American college radio charts. Newspapers like „The Independent“ and magazines like „Rolling Stone“ have followed and praised Da Cruz’s activities.
